What started in 1935 in Palmyra,
New York, as a small annual celebration of the Book of Mormon has grown
into a pageant that now attracts an estimated 100,000 visitors each year
from around the world.
The pageant tells the story of the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of
Jesus Christ. This book of ancient scripture testifies of Jesus Christ and
records God's dealings with a group of people who came to the American continent
600 years before Jesus Christ was born. The book, written on metal plates,
was deposited in the Hill Cumorah about A.D. 400 by the ancient American
prophet Moroni. It was translated by the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1827 and
printed in 1830.
The Book of Mormon contains a remarkable account of the visit of Jesus Christ
to the people of the Americas following his resurrection. The Hill Cumorah
Pageant celebrates this event and others through music, spectacular staging,
and historically authentic costuming.
We hope you will make plans now to attend this years Pageant. It's always
a rewarding and uplifting experience!
